Do babies need to use pillows?
Children, especially babies under one year old, are an important stage of head development. Having a suitable pillow is very conducive to the blood circulation of the baby’s head and promotes growth and development. If you choose improperly, it will not only affect the physiological functions of the head and neck. It may also cause certain developmental deformities. So how to choose and use pillows correctly?
Under normal circumstances, newborns do not need pillows to sleep. The newborn baby sleeps on its back. The back and the back of the head are on the same plane, and the neck and back muscles are naturally relaxed. The baby’s head is large, almost shoulder width apart. When lying on your side, your head and body are in the same plane. If the head is raised with a pillow, it will easily cause the newborn’s neck to bend. Some can also cause breathing difficulties and affect the normal growth and development of newborns.
Therefore, in principle, it is not necessary to use pillows. But in order to prevent newborns from spitting up milk, if necessary, the upper body of the newborn can be properly raised. This is a good way to prevent spitting up. When the baby is 4 to 5 months old, the neck spine begins to bend forward. At this time, the towel can be folded in half or back and placed under the head as a pillow for the baby to sleep. When the baby starts to learn to crawl and learn to sit after 7-8 months, the baby’s chest spine begins to bend backward, and the shoulders develop and widen. At this time, when the child sleeps, he can put a pillow of 3-4 cm thick.
