How to wash the silk quilt?
What if the silk quilt is accidentally wetted by a child or stained by a child? The general instructions for use say that the silk quilt should not be washed, dry cleaned, chlorine bleached, or ironed. Then you can’t let it get dirty all the time, right?
First of all, it is recommended to send it to a dry cleaner for professional treatment. If you want to get plenty of food and clothing by yourself, then you can use a neutral detergent to wipe and dry locally at low temperature. Silk fiber is acid and alkali resistant. So avoid using detergents and soaps that are too alkaline to prevent fiber damage. Soap will also combine with calcium and magnesium ions in the water to form soap scale. Soap deposits on the silk fibers will make the silk yellow and hard.
Hand wash is better for washing. It is generally not suitable for machine washing, let alone scrubbing. The washing temperature is preferably below 30°C. Stir the detergent in the water by hand before putting it into the quilt. Do not soak in water for more than five minutes. Gently scrub and rinse with your hands. Do not twist after washing to prevent the silk strands from shifting and the silk surface is skewed.
Because silk protein molecules undergo photochemical reactions under sunlight, they cause yellowing and brittleness. Therefore, it can only be dried in the shade and not exposed to the sun. Silk is easy to wrinkle, so ironing is necessary after washing. Finally, please note: When ironing, it is not suitable for high temperature and direct ironing. It must be covered with a damp cloth. The right temperature can also make the rough and hard hand feel soft as before after drying.
